At one time or another, we all have looked at the stars and wondered all kinds of things. The sailors who sailed the seas, looked at the stars and wondered and then set out to find a way to navigate by the stars and called the device a compass, which later became a Mariner's Compass. And as most things go, a quilter decided to design a pattern for the Mariner's Compass and used the 16 points of the compass in the pattern. This is a star pattern that is relatively easy to make.
Every quilter likes to challenge herself with learning new patterns. The technique of piecing together round and oval compasses vary slightly but can be used for a larger or even a smaller compass project.
